Rhinoplasty also called cosmetic surgery of the nose or a ”nose job,” is a very popular procedure that can make profound differences not only in the balance of facial features but also in a person’s self-esteem. The aesthetic improvements that a rhinoplasty surgeon can make include decreasing or increasing the size of the nose, altering the tip or bridge of the nose, and narrowing or changing the shape of the nostrils.
Women and men both are candidates for cosmetic nose surgery. If you’re displeased with the overall look of your nose and have specific concerns you wish to enhance or repair, this surgery may be the right answer. It’s very important that expectations are understood as your appearance will be altered. Facial maturity should also be complete. This factor will be discussed during your consultation, even more so for individuals under 21.
After your nose surgery, you will be monitored closely in our recovery room, and then our nurses will release you to rest at home. The area around the nose will be very swollen and bruised for a week or so. In almost all patients, there is bruising beneath the eyes in addition to the nose. Cold compresses and prescription medication can assist with these effects. Your post-operative appointment with Dr. Williams will be scheduled within 72 hours after surgery to assess your healing progress. On average, it takes around 2 – 4 weeks to heal from nose surgery. Within this process, strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided.
Being prepared for your rhinoplasty surgery can help make the procedure and recovery easier and complication-free. Before showing up to your appointment, consider committing to the following lifestyle changes at least a few weeks before your procedure:
Most rhinoplasty procedures can take anywhere between 1.5 to 3 hours to complete. However, in some specific cases, your procedure may take longer.
It’s important to also note that your rhinoplasty journey usually begins at your initial consultation with Dr. Sillins, so the timeframe from your first consultation to the end of your three-week recovery may take up to two months in total.
The results from a rhinoplasty procedure are permanent. Because your nose will be permanently altered during the procedure, patients can expect to enjoy their results for a lifetime. However, patients must maintain realistic expectations about the results of their procedure. As years go by, your body will naturally age and your facial features may change in appearance. Consequently, the appearance of your nose may also alter as you age. With the proper care and daily use of sunscreen, the results from your rhinoplasty can last for decades.
After rhinoplasty surgery, patients can usually return to work 10 days to three weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided for four to six weeks. Final results should be apparent six months to one year after surgery.
